چکیده
The Autonomous Systems Lab of EPFL is developing, within the framework of an ESA program, an ultra-lightweight solar autonomous model airplane called Sky-Sailor with embedded navigation and control systems. The main goal of this project is to jointly undertake research on navigation, control of the plane and also work on the design of the structure, the energy generation system. The airplane will be capable of continuous flight over days and nights, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications.

Solar Energy System Design of Ultralight Aircraft for Smoke Detection and Fire Alarm Proposes
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to design and evaluate the construction of a lightweight solar aircraft that is capable of flying continuously for 24 hours relying solely on solar energy. The required energy is absorbed during the day by solar panels, some is used directly for flight, and the excess energy is stored in the aircraft battery for overnight flight. The aircraft will then be ...

For more than two decades, Mars has been of great interest for scientific exploration, using orbiting spacecrafts or landers. Orbiters like “Mars Express” cover large areas and give images of the surface with a resolution limited to several meters. Rovers missions, like “Pathfinder” or “MER”, offer the ability to maneuver to scientifically interesting sites, perform analysis of soil and rock co...
متن کاملAn Overview of Flight Test Results for a Formation Flight Autopilot
The first flight test phase of the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center Autonomous Formation Flight project has successfully demonstrated precision autonomous station-keeping of an F/A-18 research airplane with a second F/A-18 airplane. Blended inertial navigation system (INS) and global positioning system (GPS) measurements have been communicated across an air-to-air telemetry link and used to c...
متن کاملF/A-18 Performance Benefits Measured During the Autonomous Formation Flight Project
The Autonomous Formation Flight (AFF) project at the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center (Edwards, California) investigated performance benefits resulting from formation flight, such as reduced aerodynamic drag and fuel consumption. To obtain data on performance benefits, a trailing F/A-18 airplane flew within the wingtip-shed vortex of a leading F/A-18 airplane. The pilot of the trail airplane ...

airplane in presence of asymmetric left-wing damaged. Variations of the aerodynamic parameters, mass and moments of inertia, and the center of gravity due to damage are all considered in the nonlinear mathematical modeling. The proposed discrete-time nonlinear MRAC algorithm applies the recursive least square (RLS) algorithm as a parameter estimator as well as the error between the real ...
